Healthy Schools – design a meal for the London 2012 Games

As a Healthy School we are part of the London 2012 Olympic’s ‘Get Set’ programme which is encouraging young people to participate in more sports and to live more healthy lifestyles.

Our students are invited to take part in a new competition called ‘Get Set to exercise your taste buds’ in which they are to design a meal which could be served to athletes at the Games. Shortlisted students will be invited to London to take part in a national final and winning students will make history when their dish is served in the Athletes’ Village next year!

Here’s what students have to do to enter:

  • Send in 2 different recipes that would provide an Olympic or Paralympic athlete with loads of energy and stamina and help him/her to stay in peak fitness
  • One dish must be inspired by the UK and the UKs culture.  The other must have an international flavour.  Ideas could be for a starter, main course or dessert – not all three courses please!
  • Explain the choices – what makes one dish very ‘British’ and the other form part of a healthy diet
Describe how the meal is nutritionally balanced and would form part of a healthy diet
  • A photograph of the meal could also be sent with the entry form or submitted online
For more information and a video go to www.london2012.com/tastebuds

A 2-page entry form is included in the next newsletter, but an online entry can also be made from the above link.  The deadline for entries is:  Friday 10 June 2011.  Good luck!
