Exams

Welcome to the exams section of the website

The Exams Officer’s role is to organise all exams held in the school including Public GCSEs, Years 9,10 and 11 Mock exams, A Level exam for Years 12 and 13, and level 3 BTEC/OCR Cambridge Technical exams. They liaise closely with the Examination Boards and Regulatory Boards to ensure that we carry out exams in line with the national guidelines.

There is an experienced team of exam invigilators who come in to supervise and administer exams. The invigilators are there not only to supervise and enforce exam regulations, but to maintain a calm atmosphere to enable all students to perform to the best of their ability.

GCSE exams take place at the end of Year 11. Along the way the students will also undertake Controlled Assessments/Non exam assessments and Coursework and these happen throughout the students two years of study. Those taking OCR Cambridge National subjects may take unitised exams throughout year 10/11.

In Braintree Sixth Form, A level exams take place in the main exam season in May/June each year, and mainly at the end of Year 13, unless as with GCSE exams there is an element of assessment involving an NEA/Controlled Assessment or Coursework. Level 3 BTEC and OCR Cambridge Technical courses will have exams throughout the two year study.

Exam season is a particularly stressful time for students, parents, and carers but the following links should answer any questions you may have.
