    Music

The Music Department aims to develop an understanding and enjoyment of music through active involvement in composing performing, listening and appraising.

Composing

Students are taught to write their own music either individually or in small groups. They are taught to write down their music in either graphic or traditional staff notation.

Performing

Students are taught to perform on a range of tuned and untuned percussion instruments. They are taught to play the keyboard and to sing in tune. All compositions are also performed.

Listening and Appraising

Students listen to and appraise a variety of music in different styles to build upon their current knowledge of the subject.

There is a purpose built suite of four practice rooms with various instruments available to use including keyboards, amplifiers and a Roland TD6 electric drum set. In addition there are two dedicated music classrooms with a range of instruments and keyboards, 15 networked MIDI workstations running Sibelius.
