Accessibility Statement

This website is run by Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form, and this statement applies to www.notleyhigh.com (18 March 2025) 2025). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen

  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software

  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We've also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Accessibility Features

  • Responsive Design: Our website is designed to work on various devices and screen sizes, including desktop computers, tablets, and smartphones.

  • Keyboard Navigation: The website is navigable via keyboard to accommodate users who cannot use a mouse.

  • Text Readability: We use clear and legible fonts, sufficient colour contrast, and adjustable text size to enhance readability.

  • Alternative Text: Images and graphics include descriptive alternative text to assist users with visual impairments.

  • Accessibility Tools: The website has a specific menu for Accessibility Tools, available by selecting the floating button on the right hand side of the site (see below).

This allows the site's colours to be changed in the following ways
    • Invert Colours
    • Monochrome
    • Dark Contrast
    • Light Contrast
    • Low Saturation
    • High Saturation
  • In addition it allows
    • link and heading highlighting
    • content scaling
    • font scaling
    • line height adjustment
    • letter spacing adjustment
  • The above styling can be changed independently of overall scaling in browser.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

School exemption

  • primary and secondary schools or nurseries - except for the content people need in order to use their services, for example a form that lets you outline school meal preferences.

Non-compliant content

We are aware that some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • PDF Documents: some older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software

  • Images: We endeavour to ensure that, where needed, we include alternative text for any images that are not simply decorative. Decorative images may include either no Alt text or an empty Alt Tag. If any images that impart information do not have a text alternative thereby allowing people using a screen reader to access the information, we will rectify this if notified.

  • Video: We endeavour to ensure that, where required, we include frame titles, captioning and transcriptions for any videos. If any videos do not have a frame title, captions or transcriptions, so people using assistive technology cannot access the information, we will rectify this if notified.

  • Links: We endeavour to ensure that, where needed, we include appropriate use of links and ensure that links are descriptive. If any links are not descriptive, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information, we will rectify this if notified.

  • Tables: We endeavour to ensure that, where needed, tables to ensure they have the appropriate headings set. If any tables do not have defined headings, so people using a screen reader or keyboard navigation cannot access the information, we will rectify this if notified. Unfortunately, it is currently almost impossible to ensure tables do not overflow the screen when fonts and content are scaled, or when viewed on devices with narrow screens.

ONGOING EFFORTS

We are continually working to improve the accessibility of our website by:

  • Screen reader compatibility: whilst our website has been built to include functionality that works with screen readers, we understand that we can always make improvements through staff training and working with users of assistive technology.

  • User feedback: We will incorporate feedback from users to enhance accessibility.

  • Keeping up-to-date: We will endeavour to keep up to date with evolving accessibility standards and best practices.

  • Following a mobile-friendly and screen reader compatible first policy for providing information, for example providing our weekly bulletins and letters home sections in HTML/text format. Where the use of PDF documents is unavoidable, we will ensure that they are screen reader compatible and structered.
