Last week a group of year 11, 12 and 13 students journeyed to the North Downs in Sussex to complete their Silver DofE practice expedition.  The group were lucky to have some brilliant weather, although the nights were a little chilly for camping!

The group has been working hard to complete their Silver DofE award for some time now.  Already finishing sections under skill, physical and volunteering they now need to complete their expedition section.

The expeditions follow strict guidelines in order to fulfil the criteria to achieve the Award.  For example the students must work in groups of 4 to 7 and they must finish the expedition by their own physical effort, without motorised or outside assistance.  The students must travel for at least 7 hours a day and use a map and compass to navigate.  The group also had to carry all of their own supplies including tents, stoves, food and a change of clothes.

The group of 25 was divided into smaller walking groups which seemed to have varying success with navigation! This being said, all the groups showed great determination and commitment and completed all challenges that were set.  The atmosphere and camaraderie that developed over the trip was fantastic and it was great to see the group making new friends and spending time with different people.

Thank you to all the students that took part and to Mr Burrows who accompanied the trip.
