60 year nine students had the unique opportunity of visiting The Guardian News and Media Education Centre on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th of June.

The trip offered the year 9s a chance to create their own newspaper in pairs, basing it on current news stories at the time. Students got to experience working under demanding deadlines to create their five articles each. The pupils got to follow in journalists footsteps for a day, have the opportunity to work in a different environment and look into possible careers.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the day and one pupil told us, “It was an incredible experience and I learnt lots too.  I would definitely recommend it to others.”

The children also learnt about important rules when writing a newspaper and found out lots of great tips.  It was a really inspirational event and was a once in a life time opportunity. It was really exciting  when we found out that Ed Balls, Shadow Chancellor, was in The Guardian on the 15th, hoping for a glimpse of the politician.

Overall, the day was a great success and was a really beneficial trip for everyone, as well as fun.
