The Drama Department ran a Set Design Competition for all KS3 students. This was based on the film Inside Out, which is focused on an 11-year-old girl named Riley who moves across the country from Minnesota to San Francisco with her parents.
Riley experiences a transformation in her mind and in who she is as a person, she tries to adjust to her new life in San Francisco and to the difficult process of growing up.

We follow Riley’s five emotions, joy, sadness, anger, fear and disgust, on a journey in her mind to help her through her transition to adolescence, and to assist her in making what they think are the right decisions.

Students were given the opportunity of being in role as a designer within a theatre company. Students had to explore and design an appropriate set if the film Inside Out was ever released on stage. There were many questions to consider within this competition such as, ‘How can the audience see the journey within Riley’s mind?’ and ‘How can the audience see the various personality islands?’

Students explored the numerous stage types available, use of symbolic colours and images, set dressing, use of special effects and much more. The Drama Department would like to say a huge well done to all our students who fully embraced this competition.

Congratulations to our worthy winners who won chocolate and our top prize of Amazon vouchers.
