Olivia was diagnosed with chondroblastic osteosarcoma – a severe form of bone cancer – in her left pelvis in February of year 10, just days after her 15th birthday. She underwent 30 weeks of chemotherapy which didn’t shrink the tumour, and then a major operation to remove her leg and part of her pelvis. Consequently, she missed lots of school (and we missed her). Despite this, Olivia has kept smiling and kept up with her studies in her core subjects and is predicted to achieve good GCSE results in the ones she has taken.
Olivia has inspired her friends to raise money both in and out of school for cancer research and for a prosthetic leg. Her determination to keep going and to always keep smiling through her ordeal has been amazing and we all think she really deserves to win the Jack Petchey award for May.
Olivia, we wish you well as you finish your exams and go on to Sixth Form!
Olivia has chosen to put her money towards a Year 12 trip to the theatre to support the Year 12 English literature A-level course she will start in September.
