On Monday 16 October, a large number of Jake’s family and friends of Jake gathered on the school field to plant an oak tree in his memory.

Typically, we chose a day when Hurricane Ophelia made an appearance and we experienced high winds and a very odd dark orange sky (something that would have entertained Jake no end!).

Mr Conway and Richard (Jake’s Dad) battled the noise of the A120 and the wind while Mel (Jake’s Mum) was given a spade (apparently something that’s not seen very often) and she helped to bed the tree in. Friends and family remembered Jake during this time and then gathered for refreshments in the shelter of the school building. The tree was planted on the field facing towards the cricket pitch, as Jake was a great fan of playing cricket.

The oak tree was also particularly fitting as Jake played for his local cricket club in Rayne and the club emblem is an oak tree.

The oak tree is standing very proud and will be a lasting memory of Jake for hundreds of years to come.
