The summer finally came and this year the weather allowed us to have our sports day.

This year we reverted back to the old format of sports day with all field events taking place on the Tuesday, and the track events, including the staff relay, taking place on the Wednesday afternoon.

The Wednesday afternoon saw over 30 races take place, with over 200 students taking part. All races and events were competed with a  great level of sportsmanship and respect for each competitor. This was echoed by the remaining students that were spectating who cheered home each and every competitor, whether they were victorious or disappointed. The afternoon saw a number of closely fought races with some outstanding performances. One stand out performance was from Tyler Bourke in Year 7 during the 100m. Tyler won his race comfortably, but was only a second away from breaking the school record that has been held since 1994. Adam Grimwood in Year 9 also went close to a school record in the 400m again missing out by only 2 seconds. This record has not been broken since 1986 and is currently held by our own Mr Snell!

Overall, after adding all of the points accumulated from both days of events, the overall tutor group winners were as follows;

Year 7 – L

Year 8 – L

Year 9 – H

Year 10 – S

The staff relay was ran again and brought its usual dramas. There were a lot of nervous staff awaiting the gun, and a small number of staff who were quietly confident. The winners of the relay were Mr Newman, Mr Fuller, Mr Higgon and Mr Ewing. Other staff have since questioned the rules and format of the staff relay to which guidelines will be put in place for next year!

 Well done to all that took part and supported the event and made the two days a big success.
