Sir Garfield stopped by to speak with our students to discuss his experiences within the game of cricket and also talk about the opportunity of attending his own cricket tournament that he holds back in Barbados. All students were fully engaged, listening to his stories and anecdotes spanning across his own cricket legacy.
Following his discussion, Sir Garfield then allowed students to pose their own questions to him. When asked about ‘that game’ and ‘the six sixes in one over’, he simply laughed and said “I always get asked that question, wherever I am in the world”. He went on to add “I wasn’t even thinking about hitting six sixes, it was all about trying to score as many runs as quick as possible. I wasn’t until I’d hit the fifth six that I had even thought it possible, but now it was an option I had to go for it!” Sir Garfield Sobers then stayed for a tour of the school and had lunch with some of the staff and students.
