On 5 November 2018, nineteen Year 9 students travelled to Newnham College, Cambridge, for the launch of The Scholars Programme. The Scholars Programme gives students the opportunity to experience higher education study and helps them develop the skills and knowledge to help them progress to higher education.
The launch day included a tour of Newnham College with current undergraduate students, a study skills session and a talk about life at university. Students also met the tutor who will be working with them in school on their studies. The Scholars Programme requires students to participate in seven tutorials with a current PhD student. Students are required to complete home learning each week and submit a 2000 word essay at the end of the seven weeks. Essays are assessed using A Level criteria and students will be awarded university grades for their work. Year 9 students will be working with a PhD student to complete a course in writing creative non-fiction using their own life experiences.
We hope students enjoy their studies and wish them every success.
