Dear Parents/Carers
On Thursday 21 March 2013, students across all year groups will experience the second and final scheduled PTB (Planned Timetable Breaking) day of the year. Please see below for details of each year group’s day:
Year 7
The PTB day for Year 7 is themed around charity and heroism. Students will hear from a variety of guest speakers, telling them of their charitable experiences and helping students see the different ways they could get involved in the local and wider community. The main aims for the day are for students to work together to choose a charity and a way they could raise money for this charity. Each tutor group will be given £50 to fund their idea as well as a website to design and blog to update during the summer term.
Year 8
The Year 8 PTB day will be based around a series of workshops on important issues including fire safety, healthy relationships, homophobia, road safety, alcohol awareness, first aid and internet safety. This day is designed to not only give students information on key areas but also the chance to develop students’ thinking and learning skills. Students are expected to wear full school uniform and bring a pen and their journal with them.
Year 9
The Year 9 PTB day has been designed to offer important advice about sexual health, relationships and health. We hope that this information and advice given will help and guide students with significant decisions that they will face as they grow up. It will also provide students with an opportunity to ask questions that they may have about the dangers associated with sexual health, relationships, body image, hygiene, drugs and alcohol.
Year 10
Year 10 will be working on different tasks that improve the skills that they will use when applying for work. This will include writing curriculum vitae and preparing for job interviews. There will also be talks from Dr G Sherwood on sexual health and The Samaritans on coping with examination stress. Students will not need to bring in anything extra for the day.
Year 11
The focus of the Year 11 day is revision. Ms Rutter, Examinations Officer, will start the day with an exam assembly to set the tone of the day. Students will take part in an individually-tailored programme of revision sessions, designed to boost their current GCSE grades in a range of subjects. Students will need to bring revision resources, their individual timetable for the day and equipment for the sessions they will be attending.
