Notley High School pupils enjoyed a colourful morning in the main school library as they marked Chinese New Year 2022!

To say goodbye to the year of the Ox and welcome in the year of the Tiger, students took part in lantern making, Chinese writing and an I-Spy picture search.

As part of the event, they were able to discuss with staff the difference between Chinese New Year and the New Year that Britons traditionally celebrate on January 1st. They also learned about the lunar calendar used in countries such as China, North and South Korea and Vietnam.

Notley High School’s library assistant, Sue Francis, spent a great deal of her spare time making a beautiful dragon's head, and the library was also decorated with lanterns made by students, alongside balloons, banners and bunting.

In the lead-up to the event, runners-up in a recent school art competition received a fortune cookie each, and on the day every student entering the library was given a Chinese sweet.
