We are delighted with the film that was made at the ‘Artist in Residence’ weekend held at Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form in November 2016.

Harry Eustace, Oliver Exton, Olivia Helen, Jack Jezzard, Cyril Lekgetho, Katie Stewart, Alex Summer and Poppy Yates collaborated with artist Joel Millerchip to design and paint two murals for the school.

The theme of the murals was ‘Aspiration for the Future’. During the creation of the artwork, students had an opportunity to reflect on their school experience so far and think about what they would like to achieve in the future. Film maker Melissa McGinniss recorded the students’ reactions to the creative process and their thoughts about a future in higher education.

Having completed the initial designs in a workshop with Joel, the students gave up a weekend to enlarge their designs onto large circular pieces of MDF and recreated them in special mural paint, spray paint and marker pen. The colourful results were put on display in the Art Exchange at the University of Essex.  The murals will soon go on display in our school building.

Thanks to the University of Essex Outreach Team, Joel Millerchip and all the students who took part.
