- In 2011, 630 people were killed or seriously injured on the roads on Essex. In Braintree, between September 2011 and August 2012, 4 people were killed and 22 were seriously injured.
- Over 2000 young people (17-25) are involved in crashes on UK roads every year.
- 600,000 people under 25 years apply for a licence each year. One in 5 will be involved in a crash in their first 6 months.
- A 17 year old driver is more than three times as likely to be involved in a crash as a 47 year old.
In response to these statistics, Braintree Sixth Form in conjunction with Essex County Council held a ‘Roadster Event” on 14th November for all Year 12 students. The day involved 6 different workshop provided by local groups, including the Fire and Police service and Trading Standards. All students also had the opportunity to test out their driving skills on the tennis courts in dual controlled cars provided by a local driving school. The day was both informative and hard-hitting, providing students with the opportunity to reflect on the pleasures and potential dangers of driving.
We extend our thanks to all of the external providers, the BSF staff who supported with workshops and the students for their impeccable conduct and interest during the day.
