February half term 2010 saw yet another ski trip head out to Austria for the annual Notley High Ski trip. It was my tenth trip at Notley and quite honestly the best to date!

With only 23 students it was the smallest trip I have ever taken but because of this there was a real family atmosphere to the group. All the students really looked out for one another and there was no separation between the year groups.

Travelling with a new company this year, The Austrian Experience, provided us with a really personal service and a range of new and different evening activities. We went Tubing on the first night where the children slid down the slopes in large tyre inner tubes! Much fun was had by all!! On Monday evening we took a tough walk up the mountain to a small ski lodge where they cooked up a big pan of pancakes and jam for us. We then took a floodlit toboggan ride back down the hill. Wednesday evening was the annual disco and Thursday presentation evening where students received certificates and trophies for their achievements during the week.

The skiing this year was fantastic and the weather and snow conditions couldn’t have been better. All students had had dry slope lessons prior to the trip enabling the whole group to ski from the top of the mountain on the first day. The beginners progressed so well that by the end of the week everyone had skied blue, red and black runs, a real achievement for everyone. It was really lovely seeing and hearing the children at the end of each day telling tales of their adventures on the slopes and what fun they had got up to in the snow!

The students were a pleasure to take away and a real credit to the school and their parents. I would like to thank them for such a good week away. I would also like to thank Mr Rowe, Miss Wilson and Mr Catt who also came on the trip and did such a fantastic job all week.

I am already organising next years trip back out to the same resort and hope to have letters out before the Easter holidays! I know there is a lot of interest already for this trip and there will be a maximum of 40 places. More details will follow shortly.
