Here’s to the next sixty years...

In a short ceremony on Thursday 24 January, representatives from the staff, students and Governors of the school gathered to celebrate the planting of a beautiful Horse Chestnut tree in commemoration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Mrs Angela Comfort, OBE, one of the founding Governors of the school, presided over the ceremony and said a few words to mark the event. The Jubilee Tree Poem, the winning entry in a specially commissioned competition, was read out by its author, Jodie Douse a student from Year 8 and a plaque with the poem inscribed on it was installed next to the tree. The tree will certainly see many changes over the next sixty years as it stands proudly outside the school buildings.

The Jubilee Tree Poem:

The stunning, beautiful, Jubilee Tree,

Sixty years on the throne, time to party,

Everyone’s preparing for this celebration,

We’ve come together as one whole nation.

In the future what will we see?

Hovercrafts, more spaceships or a floating TV?

A man on the moon has already been done,

I cannot wait to see what will come.

The Great Queen’s years have quickly passed,

I hope her reign will forever last,

Because she is the one that solves our strife,

A tree we choose to show her long life.
