Congratulations to Notley High School and Braintree Sixth Form Year 11 students, who have achieved another strong set of results this summer in this year’s GCSEs; these follow very good results earlier in July and August in IB and A level exams.The results show a continued upward trend in students’ achievement, with 60% of students achieving 5A*-C in at least 5 GCSEs, including English and Mathematics; this is matched by improved outcomes in all other measures. Some thirty four students gained at least 5A* or A grades in their examination results.
Amongst the top achievers were Isobel Macdonald, who achieved 9 A* and 1 A grades and is looking forward to studying A Levels; Deputy Head Girl Dexan Charlery-Warner achieved 8 A*, 1 A and 1 B, and is looking forward to starting the IB Diploma programme at Braintree Sixth Form in September. Another star performer was Lucy Hawtin, who achieved 10 GCSEs, all at grade A or higher, and on top of this was awarded an incredible A for her Additional Maths qualification, which introduces students to mathematics at AS/A level standard. She will resume her studies at Braintree Sixth Form, as will this year’s Sports Captain Matthew Brand-Barker. Matthew managed to balance his sporting commitments with academic study, and has gained 2 A* grades, 6 A grades and a Distinction in Technology (equivalent to a further A*). He plans to study for A levels at Braintree Sixth Form. In total, sixteen students achieved grades of at least 8 A - A*s and they should be absolutely delighted with their achievements.
Headteacher David Conway comments that ‘it is particularly pleasing to see students of all abilities achieving so highly; we are also gratified to see the continuing improvement in the overall results of students at the school, which can only be achieved through the efforts of students, supported by staff, parents and carers. Although the 5 A*-C including Maths and English figure will no longer count towards the national Performance Tables, we are very conscious of the significance of these particular grades to the students themselves, and of course delighted with some very strong individual performances at every level. We look forward to welcoming many students into Year 12 within the next fortnight and wish all of this year group the very best for their futures.’
