Dear Parents
The National Union of Teachers (NUT) has called a national one day strike on teachers’ pay. The strike will take place on Thursday 24 April 2008. Many NUT members in the school will be taking part in this strike action and I am therefore writing to all parents to outline the arrangements I will be putting in place to deal with this situation.

The school will be closed to all students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 on Thursday 24 April.

Year 11 students should attend school as normal on the day in full school uniform with all the necessary books and equipment for lessons on that day. There will be some disruption to the Year 11 timetable due to the absence of some teachers but, as far as possible, we will operate the normal Year 11 timetable on the day. Year 11 students should bring some work with them which they can complete independently in case there are occasions in the day when they are required to do this. Buses and taxis will operate as normal on the day for Year 11 students.

I recognise that this NUT strike action will cause some inconvenience to parents. However, it is impossible for me to open the school as usual on 24 April with so many teachers absent. I have therefore put in place arrangements which will minimise the disruption to our Year 11 students as they approach their GCSE examinations.
