On Wednesday 4 March 2020 and Friday 6 March 2020, a total of 50 students took part in a Jack Petchey Speak Out Workshop. Each workshop was run by a professional speaker (Fiona Whytehead) from The Speaker’s Trust.
Students learnt the importance of being able to speak confidently in public before playing games and completing activities designed to improve their own public-speaking skills.
It was a pleasure to see the students supporting one another and they all finished the day by delivering a successful and engaging speech in front of their peers. Students chose a wide range of topics to talk about, including lying, mental health, dyslexia, and destiny.
Ms Whytehead said that she was very impressed with our students and the quality of their speeches.
Six students have been chosen to take part in the next stage. This will take the form of an internal competition in school to select one student who will go through to the Regional Finals at Alec Hunter Academy on Wednesday 29 April 2020.
Student feedback showed that they were pleased to have taken part in the workshop, saying that it had improved their confidence and their ability to effectively use their voice.
