On Friday 2 and Friday 9 March, over forty Year 10 students took part in this year’s Jack Petchey Speak Out Speak Up Challenge - a training programme, organised by Speakers Trust, designed to develop the public speaking and communication skills of Key Stage 4 learners.

Throughout the day, students were guided through a range of speaking and listening activities, and were given lots of ‘Top Tips’ for helping them become successful public speakers. At the end of the day, students were were able to practise the skills they had acquired during the training session, by delivering a short speech on a subject of their choice to their fellow course participants. I’m delighted to inform you that the six Speak Up Speak Out winners were: Katie Stewart, Frankie Selwood, Patrick Loveard, Melissa Forrester, Victoria Fuller and Kayleigh Cutmore. Our six School Finalists will perform their speeches once more, before just two of them will be chosen to represent the school in the next round of the competition - the Regional Final – in April.
