Alicia was nominated by four people, including her tutor, for her longstanding charity work.  This includes donating £20 of her own money to the Haiti earthquake, walking 18 km for the Farleigh Hospice Sunrise Walk – twice – walking the Braintree and Bocking Carnival 20 km sponsored walk to raise money for Little Havens Children’s Hospice and organising fundraising for BBC Children in Need.  Phew!

 

For many years Alicia has also gone door to door selling Braintree Carnival programmes and for the past few years has also helped the Salvation Army with the dinners for the homeless at Christmas.  The first year she did this, there were two children who didn’t have any presents, so Alicia went home and got some of hers to give them.  In June she held a tea party in her home which raised £40 for Farleigh House Hospice and during the summer holidays volunteered at the Tabor Centre for disabled people.  Here, she helped in the kitchen and also in fun activities for the disabled visitors, whose ages ranged from 20-50.

Alicia plans to give the £200 she wins from the Jack Petchey Foundation to the Notley Cheerleading Team so they can buy much needed costumes.  There are fourteen students who are in the team, which is held in the Dance Studio on Mondays after school; supervised by Miss Knight.
