During the Autumn Term 2014 there was a competition for students and staff to suggest names for Notley’s three Houses.Students are placed in one of three houses, depending on which tutor groups they are in. Tutor groups in NOT, LEY and HSB make up the 3 Houses.

From this competition, Mr R Newman and Mrs Townsend met with the senior prefects to agree which names should reach the short-list in order for there to be a school vote. During this meeting, 6 options were agreed, and following this Mr Newman and the senior prefects visited all Year 7-11 assemblies to give students information about the 6 options on the short-list.

The winning Houses from the school vote were named after local rivers – the Rivers Blackwater (NOT), Chelmer (LEY) and Colne (HSB).

Notley’s House competition runs across the academic year, and gives students in different year groups to compete together in a range of activities, events and achievements to determine the winners of the House Competition. House points are achieved from a wide range of activities, events and achievements including:
  • Merits and commendations
  • Attendance
  • Impact Days
  • Curriculum competitions
  • PE inter-form activities
  • Sports Day
We plan to add a growing number of activities, events and achievements to the competition as it becomes more established. There will also be student leadership opportunities from all year groups.
