On Monday 20th October, Harvey Payne entered the Essex Schools Golf competition which was held at Langdon Hills Golf Club.

Harvey went into the competition on the back of number of promising rounds of golf and felt in a confident mood.

The competition is divided into a boys and girls section with age categories of under 14, under 16 and under 18 for each. Harvey, aged 13, currently attends Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form and competed in the under 14 section. He started his round well with a number of well executed shots resulting in birdies to help put him to +1 for the front nine. The back nine proved to be a bit more challenging with the wind proving to be a huge factor. Harvey managed to end with a score of +7, two under for his handicap of 9. This proved to be the winning score in this age category and led Harvey to win by 5 clear shots. This is a fantastic achievement and one in which Harvey should be very proud.

Harvey now holds the title for the next year of being 'Essex County Champion'.
