As the 2020 summer exams which Year 11 students were due to take this year were cancelled, this year’s students have been awarded either the Centre Assessed Grade or an Exam Board Grade, based on information supplied by each school.
During the past week there have been numerous announcements that have stated which grade will be used. Finally, the decision was made to use the higher grade of the centre assessed grade or the exam board grade.
The past few months and weeks have been challenging for the students in many ways. Waiting for examination results is always an anxious time and the uncertainty caused by recent events have not helped the situation. Our main priority is to support the students in this difficult time to ensure they can progress to the next stage of their chosen career pathway.
As a result, none of the usual benchmark data or headline figures which lend themselves to comparisons between this year and other years, or between schools, have any validity this year. Schools in this area have therefore come to an agreement that it would serve no purpose to release such figures into the public domain.
Mr James, Executive Headteacher said “This has been a very uncertain time for students, many of whom were disappointed at losing out on the opportunity to prove themselves in the exam hall, and who have endured several months of waiting to find out what grades they would have been awarded.
However, at last, students at Notley High School are celebrating the end of Year 11 with successes that will allow them to progress to their chosen college or apprenticeship courses. We wish them all best wishes and good luck for their future.”
Dr Cusick, Head of School said, “We are proud of the way the students have responded to these challenging circumstances. We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of so many students, many of whom have exceeded their target grades.”
There are many individual achievements, but students of note include the following who were all awarded high grades for their 10 GCSEs: Alfie Brinkley with six grade 9s and four grade 8s, Rhiannon Scudder with eight grade 8s, Amelia Parkes with one grade 9 and six grade 8s, and Wallace Degamo with four grade 9s and three grade 8s.
