There were celebrations this week after an amazing group of seven year 10 students came top in the Ceres Hydrogen Animation challenge 2022 competition!

The competition asked entrants to look at a net zero aspect and how this could be achieved.

Notley was one of only three schools shortlisted from an initial 20 to get through to the finals, held at the Science Museum in London.

During the finals, the students gave a 30-minute presentation to the five judges and were then announced as winners thanks to their fantastic animation on net zero and fast fashion.

During the final the students were also able to see to see the first hydrogen super car and enjoyed a talk from Piers Mulvey about his recent expedition to Antarctica.

For being shortlisted they received a rucksack full of gifts and a certificate for the school. As winners, each student received a £250 amazon gift card!

The trophy is a working hydrogen fuel cell, which the students talked about in their animation.

We would like to thank all the members of the Science department who support the students on this project, and also Sharon Nicholson for organising transport to get the students to the final.

Ceres organised the competition, for secondary schools in the South East of England, in collaboration with STEM Learning UK.

Entrants were asked to submit up to three minutes of video explaining an exciting scientific concept that is relevant to the net zero mission.

The aim is to inspire the next generation of innovators and creatives to think about the global climate challenge and to bring their own creativity to tackling the mission for net zero.
