On Wednesday 29 January 2020, Year 8 students watched a presentation on raising the awareness of knife crime. Greenfields Housing led the event working with the drama group Alter Ego.
‘Breaking the Chain’ demonstrated the risks for youths between the ages of 12 – 18 who fall into the perils of knife culture. The drama was based on true events, where the performers delivered the message about the devastating effects that knife culture has, how this can be a continuing cycle and the need to ‘break the chain’
The Police and Ambulance Service supported Greenfields Housing with this event and also attended the presentation. The knife arch and metal detectors were used as props in order to demonstrate to the students how knives can be found if they were being carried out on the streets.
The students were all engaged with the well delivered performance and the Police hope to run similar multi agency events in the future in a bid to keeping the community a safer and nicer place to be a part of.
