Calling all Year 10s!

With our Year 11 students soon to depart for their GCSE study leave, we are inviting applications from our current Year 10 for the posts of Head Boy and Head Girl. Read the following "Job Description" and seriously consider if you are up to the challenge.

If you think you are, then we would like you to apply for one of these high profile roles.

Applications should be made in the form of a typewritten letter addressed to Mr Osborn, Deputy Headteacher stating the reasons why you think you are suitable for the post. Clearly mark the envelope for the attention of Mr Osborn and hand it into reception by the end of the day on April 17th 2007. Any applications received after this time will not be considered.

The Role of Head Boy/Head Girl

The role of Head Boy and Head Girl involves a lot of different aspects.

First and foremost they must be a positive role model for the rest of the year, and the whole school, and therefore must be students who are happy to accept and abide by the school’s code on conduct, appearance and attitude.

They will represent the school on formal occasions and often need to address school and other individuals at such events as awards evenings etc.  Consequently, they need to be confident and articulate and able to put together a short speech for various events.  There are quite a lot of events throughout the year, some high profile and Head Boy/Head Girl will be expected to attend these.  It is no use saying that football training/origami club must come first – if you cannot miss these occasionally then think twice about whether you can accept the responsibility.

Day to day responsibilities will involve organising the Prefects.  Make sure that you are able to ask your peers to do something, or not do something.  Do not underestimate how hard it might be to question a friend about why they haven’t been on duty or ask them to go outside on a cold day.
