Introduction from Mr Barrow

Introduction from Mr Barrow

It has been a busy and productive week. On Monday Year 10 students received their first set of mock examination results. I was impressed by their reflections and honesty. There is much to celebrate in their results as well as clear areas of focus for Year 11. I have confidence in each and every one of them and it is all about individual ‘personal bests’. In addition, a number of students participated in our three-day Bushcraft residential. There are photographs on our website as well as on our Facebook page: Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form . A huge thank you to the staff who led the trip. A positive experience was had by all.

I have spent a lot of time dropping in on lessons this week and again have seen many positives. Year 9 are really grappling with the core elements of Jekyll and Hyde, specifically the duality of human nature. I have been impressed by their use of language as well as their reflections on the importance of how we behave and the decisions we make. This links to our whole school focus on behaviour and attitudes next academic year. I would also like to recognise the high levels of engagement I have seen in every Year 7 lesson that I visit and in Food Technology. I have included photos of students’ work in Food Technology in this week’s bulletin. It is great!

Finally, another thank you to all the parents and carers who have taken the time to meet with me this week. Your feedback is invaluable and over the weekend I will pull together our response to your feedback and the plans for September, including trips and visits and extra-curricular.

As the summer holidays are approaching rapidly, this week’s bulletin also includes a Safeguarding update.

Wishing you a very good weekend.
