Headteacher's Update 18 October 2024
This week we welcomed Year 6 students to school for our transition DT taster lessons. I’m grateful to Mr Burge and Miss Currie for running these. They were supported by Year 9 and Year 10 students who did a tremendous job. We also hosted a KS2 Bocci sporting event and again our students were excellent. Thank you to Miss Trafford for overseeing this.
8 Sixth Form students also attended the first Tottenham Hotspur Education Cup, held at Tottenham’s training ground. Our squad performed very well against an extremely high standard set from the other colleges. Although not coming away as winners, the squad can hold their heads high with the performances they put in. We even managed to secure the ‘Goal of the tournament’ award when our goalkeeper managed to score. He was rewarded with a signed ball from one of the Tottenham Hotspur first team, Dominic Solanke. Solanke had already given a Q & A session with all players and managed to watch some of the action, along with posing for some squad pictures with all the players.
HEART points for this week are:
Year 7: 564
Year 8: 1385
Year 9: 1247
Year 10: 489
Year 11: 294
In addition, I have awarded many Headteacher’s postcards for exceptional work and contribution to our community: Notley Slideshow Transition Postcards.mp4 | Congratulations to students who received Headteacher's postcards this week. | By Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form | Facebook
I'm grateful to parent/carers for their continued support with our drive on standards. Detentions continue for poor uniform choices, and whilst suspensions remain higher than I would wish, I remain committed to our school being the very best learning environment it can possibly be. The overwhelming majority of our students are 'getting it right' every day and next week's celebration assemblies are one of our ways of recognising this.
On recognition, I'm pleased to confirm this year's Annual Rewards Trips.
Year 7: Southend Adventure Island
Year 8: Chessington World of Adventures
Year 9: Thorpe Park
Year 10: Thorpe Park
Year 11: Winter Wonderland (in December)
With the exception of Year 11, all rewards trips will take place during the second half of the Summer Term. We will confirm the criteria with students over the coming weeks.
Finally, a reminder to Year 11 parent/carers that we have the Year 11 Parents’ Evening next Thursday. I very much look forward to meeting more you of then.
With all good wishes for the weekend.
Mr M Barrow, Headteacher
