Essex Police have contacted secondary schools to inform them that From Wednesday 8 November, it has been made illegal to possess nitrous oxide for the purpose of wrongfully inhaling it, and it is now classified as a Class C drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

This means that it is now a criminal offence to possess nitrous oxide without a legitimate reason, as opposed to just supply and intent to supply.

Under the legislation, repeat, serious users could face up to two years in prison while those convicted of supplying it could face up to 14 years.

We are currently running meetings for parents with students with SEND to meet with the SENCO (Mr Haddon) or assistant SENCO (Ms Humphrey) to ensure that passports have been updated and to look at progress.  Year 8 have recently had theirs with year 7 and year 10 being arranged for next Thursday 23rd November.  The day will be organised like a parents' and carers' evening but with 30 minute slots.  You will receive an email with a link to the booking form where you can choose from the times available.

Year 11 will have a similar day once the mock results have been announced and year 9 will have the same in the new year once the options booklet has been confirmed.
