Last week, twelve Year 9 students attended the Firebreak programme at Braintree Fire Station.

The Firebreak programme aims to promote a culture of safety and team work and citizenship by teaching a range of vital life skills whilst undertaking the various disciplines of the Fire Service.  The course provides a learning environment that combines practical skills and scenario based training, with classroom centred theory/discussion workshops.  During the intensive week long fire station based course, the students gain confidence and develop vital life skills, while experiencing the techniques used by fire-fighters in their working  lives.

Mrs Bird and I visited the students daily to see how they were getting on and we’d be safe to say, we were really impressed every time.  Mrs Bird even got to try out the kit and complete the breathing apparatus activity with the students!

Family, friends and Notley High School staff were invited to the Fire Station on Friday to watch the passing out of the group.  It was a fantastic afternoon that impressed us all.  The students had worked so hard throughout the week and this really showed.  The Firebreak staff were very complimentary of all the students and we were all very proud watching them.

Well done to all involved!
