The Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award is officially underway! On April 4th, participants enjoyed their in-house Expedition training day, guided by Duncan and his colleague from Let’s Get Out, our Approved Activity Provider (AAP). Students gained valuable skills, including map reading, route planning, expedition mapping, and selecting suitable menu options for their hike.

Following this, on April 7th, participants visited Let’s Get Out’s base camp for further practical training. Here, they learned essential expedition skills such as tent pitching, cooking on a Trangia stove (highlighted by making delicious hot chocolate), hiking safety, and basic first aid. The day concluded with a practice hike to test out their newly acquired skills.

Blessed with perfect early spring weather, our students enthusiastically embraced every challenge, demonstrating fantastic teamwork and resilience, making us immensely proud. Thank you to the members of staff who gave their time to support the day: Mrs Donders, Miss Edwards, and the other Miss Francis.

With their newfound confidence and skills, participants are now eagerly preparing for their qualifying hike later this month. Good luck to all involved!
